Counseling Methods

Depending on the diagnosis and the patient - we'll work together to find the best counseling method available.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on challenging and changing cognitive distortions and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and the development of personal coping strategies that target solving current problems. In layman’s terms it is changing people’s perceptions to be more positive, so that your thoughts, emotions and behaviors follow.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that was specially adapted to treat individuals who suffer from extremely intense emotions. I always tell my clients that it is the sister of CBT. CBT deals with changing thoughts and DBT helps regulate emotions.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Processing

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma.

Person Centered Therapy

Person-centered therapy uses a non-authoritative approach that allows clients to take more of a lead in discussions so that, in the process, they will discover their own solutions.
